Jeffrey Dojillo was born on the Ninth of June, 1979. The youngest of 3
children and the product of Filipino immigrants, his family raised him in
the greater Los Angles area. As early as his mid to late teens, Jeff had
been influenced by city landscapes and the musical environments that
surrounded him. In 1997, after years of infatuation, Jeff fell in love with
hip-hop culture. The graffiti, the Music, the style of dance, gave Jeff a
sub culture to identify with. He grew up at a time where indie hip-hop was
thriving with culture and creativity.
In 2001 Jeff said goodbye to the San Gabriel Valley and moved to San Diego
to pursue a higher education at San Diego State University. During that
time, Jeff formed a hip hop group that was later to be known as the
Dialectx Crew. Acting as primary Producer, his talents empowered the group
to go on tours, perform in front of thousands, and eventually earned them
Nominations by the San Diego Music Awards in the category of Best Hip Hop
Album of the year for 2001 and 2004.
During his college career, Jeff's love evolved with the traditional arts
and received a Bachelor's Degree in Fine arts with an emphasis in
Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, and Photography. His work excels in fine
art conceptual photography. The compositions he chooses depict modern
human emotions, feelings and struggles. His work tends to analyze the dark
side of human nature, creating images that feel surreal. The models he
chooses are not nearly as important for looks, as they are for the
character he tries to develop. The models chosen are posed in a way that
captures the essence of being human.
Jeff's photography tends to be elaborate with its thought process. Jeff
creates mood-setting environments and captures shots according to the
feeling of the composition. The narratives Jeff creates give the viewer a
sense of voyeurism, and places the viewer into the image making the series
interactive. |
